Luc Bergeron started harvesting maple syrup in 1975 on a 52-acre farm located 150 km southeast of Quebec City. During
the early years approximately 5,000 trees were tapped and buckets were used to collect the maple sap. On a daily basis
during the harvest season (March & April) Luc and a small group of workers would gather the sap by horse and sleigh
taking it back to the sugar shack. There the sap was processed in a wood fired evaporator and concentrated into maple
syrup. It takes approximately 45 litres of sap to make one litre of maple syrup.
Today our farm has expanded to 1,200 acres with over 100,000 trees tapped. This is the largest independently owned maple farm in the world.
In 1994, we built a new syrup processing facility with state of the art equipment. Our farm is certified organic by Ecocert Canada.
We now use a modern and cost effective tubing system to tap the trees, which connects the trees to 9 pumping stations.
From these stations the sap is collected and pumped to our processing building. There it is concentrated using reverse osmosis equipment that separates sugar and water molecules. The concentrated sap is
then boiled in our 3 large evaporators to become maple syrup.
This syrup is stored in stainless steel drums and shipped to our bottling plant & Eastern Distribution Centre in Granby, located 40 km east of Montreal.
