4 to 6 slices of bread cut into small cubes
1/4 cup maple sugar or syrup
1/2 cup apple juice
3 to 4 apples peeled, cored and sliced
1/3 cup maple sugar or syrup
2 eggs
1/2 maple sugar or syrup
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup ground almonds
pinch of salt
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a bowl mix together the bread cubes, maple sugar and apple juice.
2. Arrange the apples slices at the bottom of a buttered cake pan, sprinkle with the maple sugar, and cover with the bread mixture and set aside.
3. In a bowl of an electric mixer, beat the eggs and sugar until they are pale. Add the butter, milk, flour, baking powder, ground almonds and a pinch of salt; mix well. Turn this mixture onto the bread cubes and bake for about 45 minutes.
4. Serve with Maple syrup or Maple custard.
